Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners parties.
